Baku International Multiculturalism Center invites you to apply for the “Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021” opportunity. 
“Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021” supports scientific and creative projects that meet the highest international standards and are high-risk in the most positive sense of the word. The Scientific Research program promotes the research, scholarly, and artistic activities and supports academic excellence throughout the Baku International Multiculturalism Center. The Competition supports initiatives and researches/projects that builds Multicultural awareness, and understanding. The Program strives to create a province where people feel included and that their cultures and heritage is valued.
“Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021” provides support for the infusion of multiculturalism into educational, and professional programs; and the activities of allied/related associations and organizations.

About the Award

Multicultural Scientific Research Awards 2021 engaged with underrepresented communities and focuses on issues related to multiculturalism issues.  Through the Multicultural Scientific Research Awards 2021, Baku International Multiculturalism Center seeks to support the Center’s diverse community of scholars by enhancing the visibility and advancing the productivity of faculty who are conducting interdisciplinary research.
It is expected that the average Multicultural Scientific Research Award 2021 will be $5,000.  The exact number of award will depend on the nature, quality, and number of proposals received. If no proposals meet a minimum level of quality, no competition prize will be awarded.

Baku International Multiculturalism Center recognizes and rewards outstanding researchers on multiculturalism who have the potential to revolutionize their fields of study. Successful candidates for a competition program generally have a strong record of significant multiculturalism research accomplishments that demonstrate creativity and the potential to become leaders in the scientific community. Nominated candidates are normally several years past the completion of their Ph.D. in order to accumulate a competitive record of independent, significant research.

The Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021 is open for all international and domestic scholars.

Program Objectives

Program Objectives

The overall objectives of the Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021 are to:

  • Azerbaijan model of multiculturalism

  • Historical and cultural heritage of Caucasian Albania

  • The history of Christianity in Azerbaijan

  • The role of multiculturalism in the prevention of religious radicalism and extremism

  • The role of Azerbaijan in intercultural and interreligious dialogue

  • Multicultural Marketing: Managing Ethnic Identities

  • Multiculturalism in higher education

  • Multicultural diversity and religious identities

  • Multiculturalism and Diversity: Cultural Psychology

  • Multiculturalism: achievements and problems

  • Racism and cultural diversity in the Mass Media

  • Tolerance and cultural diversity.

Projects must:

  • be compatible with Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021's mission and vision;

  • have a clear, high-quality plan for meeting its objectives;

  • be completed, including evaluation, within 6 months of initiation of the project; 

  • describe the future of the project after Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021   has ended.

  The research projects must be submitted in English, Turkish, Russian and German.


The results of the winning research papers will be published in book format by Baku International Multiculturalism Center as support for the winners.

Application Submission Details

A complete application must include these materials:

The following documents are also required:

  • Letter of nomination describing the applicant's work and why he or she should be selected for the award (no more than two (2) A4 pages).

  • Bibliography: a list of no more than twelve (12) of the applicant's publications that are most relevant for this award. Publications without access restrictions are particularly welcome.

  • Letter of support: up to two (2) letters of support can be submitted. Letters must be written by eminent experts from institutions external to both the applicant's and the applicant’s institution, and each should be no longer than one (1) A4 page. 


Only correctly completed and submitted nominations will be reviewed and eligible for the award. 

After submitting your application you will receive an email confirming that we have received it.

Formatting Notes


   A.Cover Page

  • Competition number, Project Title, Name/surname, full address, telephone, fax, and email/Web address

      B. Final Report (maximum 1500 words, or three pages)

  • Project information – research project, name of research project, actual number of participants.

  • Brief explanation of why this research project was undertaken, including expectations, and whether expectations were met.

  • Brief explanation on how your research project met the program objectives of the Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021.

  • Brief explanation of the most significant thing that happened as a result of your  research project.

  • Final Report  should be prepared on white paper, using a 12-point (Times or similar) and one-inch margins on all sides; pages should be numbered.


C.Final Full Proposal

  • The Final full proposal   shall be between 25,000 to 400,000 words in length and include an executive summary of up to 600 words.

  • Proposal  should be prepared on white paper, using a 12-point (Times or similar) and one-inch

  • margins on all sides; no extra space between paragraphs, pages should be numbered.

  • The Final full proposal  should consist of a research background, objectives / scope, methodology, research findings / impact(s), and proposed next steps (if applicable). To avoid doubt, the bibliography, footnotes and annexures / appendices shall not be included in the word count.



 References should be included at the end of the text. The references used should be in alphabetical order according to the surnames of the authors or according to the name of the reputed. All sources are listed by the last names of the authors and listed individually at the end of the manuscript. 
All the references mentioned in the text should be cited in the “Author-Date” format, for example (Author 1, 1987), (Author 1 and Author 2 1987); An author-date citation in running text or at the end of a block quotation consists of the last (family) name of the author, followed by the year of publication of the work in question. In this context, author may refer not only to one or more authors or an institution but also to one or more editors, translators, or compilers. No punctuation appears between author and date. Abbreviations such as ed. or trans. are omitted.
The Reference list should include the full title as recommended by the Chicago style guide.

Who evaluates the research proposal?

Who evaluates the grant proposals?


All project proposals will be reviewed by the Baku International Multiculturalism Center’s Expert group. 

Members of the Expert group will exclude themselves from reviewing proposals where a conflict of interest may exist. Any conflicts of interest will be disclosed in the review minutes and will be reported on competition approvals.

A staff member from the Office of Baku International Multiculturalism Center will coordinate the Expert group. The coordinator's evaluation of a proposal will be considered only when a member of the Expert Group  must be excluded from reviewing a specific proposal due to conflict of interest or when the panel's ratings do not provide a clear-cut decision on a specific proposal.




Applicants who are approved to receive a Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021 will receive a letter notifying them of the decision and the payment amount. The Baku International Multiculturalism Center  will make payments to the recipient researchers as indicated in the program. 



  • Applicants will receive written notification of the decision regarding their  submission.

  • All decisions on scientific research projects are final, and no appeals will be considered.

  • The review and decision-making process takes approximately 20 days. 

  • Applicants may not resubmit research paper for the same project until written notification of the outcome of their current submission is made by Baku International Multiculturalism Center’s Expert Group .

Applicants must disclose, at submission, any association that poses or could be perceived as a conflict of interest in connection with the research paper, and acknowledge all funding sources supporting the work. When asked to evaluate a research paper, the members of the Expert Group  must disclose any association that poses a conflict of interest in connection with the research paper.

Personal information related to the Baku International Multiculturalism Center’s Expert Group is collected for the purposes of administering the program. All information in this scientific research competition will remain confidential. Baku International Multiculturalism Center collects, uses and distributes funding information in order to adjudicate and manage the Multicultural Scientific Research Competition 2021 and promote cultural activity within the province.
